This blog is 1 year old

Today, this blog is 1 year old, March 1st 2004, I booked this site,
However I started to write something only from April 18th 2004.
Just a birth day note, I request you to read My first blog

Last week, I was bitten by the flu bug, had to be at home for more than a week.
During the vacation, Oscar awards were given, I watched the show fully, and Chris rock was totally out of his gears. He went for the usual Bush bashing which I felt was kind of stale, and then he took over some of his fellow actors and told directors to “wait” for the proper actor, does this advice apply to the Oscar committee, and will they “wait” for a better Master of ceremony.

My point is if you get Chris Rock, you should give him the full court advantage, there is no point in restricting him like a tamed pony. I am sure he is much funnier than what we saw last Sunday. Hey, if ABC wants it to be a “G” rated Oscar, they are welcome to get their Mickey or Donald to host the show. However I don’t know if the Dressing up fiasco falls under this category of a family evening.

The E Channel had more than 5 hours of commercial free live coverage from the red carpet. They teed of right from how the carpet was made, which euro designer designed it, using what etc. a good chunk general knowledge was shared in the name of Oscar coverage.

The Red carpet walk, the so called fashion designers are ripping people left and right. I felt most women wore material similar to curtains in many homes. It looked to me that some of them got excess cloth; but being the so called “expensive designer wear”, the designers used all that was given to them; for most the excess cloth followed them like an anaconda.

There were many living and non-living things on TV talking about these cloths. What is a designer wear? Answer: Something that makes you look undressed or semi-nude? I don’t know what the big deal was. I think it was a good plan for rain, though it did not rain much as expected using just one of the so called designer wear, we could build a perfectly made 48x96 “shamiyana” and people could walk right under it without an umbrella.

The awards, Let me keep it short [bashing]. I really don’t know the deal on the movie “million dollar babe”, what is the big deal here? A grumpy old boxing teacher breaks the ice by tutoring a determined girl, just change the boxing teacher to Dance teacher; hey we might get “punnagai mannan” or may be Sripriya learning Karate in Billa. Come on! “Srikanth” Shut up, you don’t have taste for Oscar rated movies, and this movie is about Maggie’s Determination, Oh Yes! It was Revathy’s same determination that changes the mind of the grumpy teacher. What is the big drama about? I need to check with my neighbors Dog, I hope he had got the plot, I am sure he would have, they call him Oscar.

Thanks!.

Bullis School, how many in DC metro have heard about this school? , the reason I heard about them was a report in Today’s Washington post.
Kids from Bullis School conducted a fund raiser that raised about $88,000. Using this they provided brand new boats and fishing equipments to fishermen in the Indian village of Kottivakkam Tamil Nadu. Most of their boats and fishing equipments were lost during the recent Tsunami.

The post reports among those who sprang into action were high school juniors from Potomac, students at a D.C. elementary school, an Indian American yoga instructor in McLean, two Thai restaurateurs, a Montgomery County agency worker and a Malaysian steel consultant in Gaithersburg. For them as for countless others, helping the victims was about more than clicking "Donate Now" on a charity Web site. They aimed higher. Rounding up family, friends, customers and classmates, they posted fliers, twisted arms, cooked meals, put on shows and, one way or another, pulled in the dollars.

The best part of all this is both the community really have not seen or may not see each other, they collected funds to help an unknown fisherman community in a remote corner of Tamil Nadu India. Simply Hats to the kids and others who took part in this noble cause. As post rightly titled this article as "Action Speaks Louder! than Cash" Thank You for helping our fishermen community.

Srikanthd.IN
Yesterday I signed up for “SRIKANTHD.IN” about a month ago .IN domain suffix became official. Just to be part of the community I booked one with .IN for my music site. My website can be now accessed by Srikanthd.IN or Srikanthd.COM

My Blogolouge - Feb 21, 2005

Finally it is done. What is done? In my old apartment my studio was kind of semi sound proofed, the studio space was smaller than what we have now so it was ok. However, when we moved to our new home, I had to wait for about a year to sound proof and acoustically treat my studio, thanks to the dry wall warranty. However last month, the final inspection was done and minor cracks and nail pops were fixed. We are now on our own the builder officially washed their hands. It was time to complete the pending sound proofing; we spent the whole weekend on this task. The studio is now 100% acoustically treated at a cost of around $600. Hopefully our next releases have better sounding mix.

The weather man in our area had warned evening snow, so I decided to stay indoors and went on a channel surfing spree. First stop was the SunTV, Trevolta was talking “Tholkapiyan” Tamil [similar to Shakespearian English].

I remember in the 80s, the owners of Sun TV picketed in front of Doordarshan Madras against Hindi serials being dubbed in Tamil. Hindi is one common language spoken across the country. They objected it as it hampered Tamil productions and creativity. But today what changed their principles to dub movies from an alien language? Are we running short of Tamil movies? God only knows. I really don’t see the need for Sun TV to irk us with old action English movies in the name of Tamil dubbing.

As I surfed to my agony I found the same movie in English on the FX channel. This was followed by “Commando”, [shown last week on SunTV]. Dubbed versions are more boring than the unreleased movies like “kumbakonam goapalu”. I need a refund.

Nascar

There was a great gaga even in the weather channel about the Daytona 500 in Florida. yesterday every TV anchor person was smiling wide about this Dayton 500. Yes, it was Daytona 500 “Nascar” racing. I decided to watch the race. Just an alternate to avoid the Dubbing craze SunTV.

After a while I realized that it was watching a bunch of colorful cars going round and round for about 50,000 times. And finally one person is declared to be the winner. To make it more Spicer they have car crashes in between breaks. Seriously tell me how is this Nascar coverage different from our CDOT Traffic cams?, I felt they were similar, we can see crashes at regular intervals with flashing tow trucks, I saw the same stuff yesterday in Nascar, about 9 times, much lesser than Beltway incidents. Basically you can get the same entertainment as in Nascar if you watch the CDOT cams. Drivers encounter much tougher conditions while driving to work using the Capitol Beltway. Dangerous car merges, people cheating and driving through HOV lanes, Rash lane jumping maniacs, single passenger driven mini buses called “SUVs”, very slow moving drivers are few to mention.

Just add commentary to CDOT cams,

Pete: “the green SUV is now passing the undersized Volkswagen Beatle”

Dan: “Pete” that was a great maneuver above the speed limit”,

Pete: yaw! “Dan” “now check the left most, do you see the Buick driving slowly on the HOV”, “it seems to have cramped the entire HOV lane.

Dan: Yes, but I also hear the red Jeep Cherokee honk, this honk was made in Korea, the sound is so distinct produces about 10db more than regular cars.

Pete: Oh! Oh! Hold on, the Cherokee driver is now showing a finger to get way, but Buick driver ignores him totally and maintain the great speed of 45 miles an hour.

Dan: A patient man,

Joe: Guys, Wow the sanity returns from now here as a flashing cop car passes. Look at the Prudent drivers, Look at them!..wow they are so prudent, they quickly use the gap created by the cop car and advance their position.

Pete: true, very true. Let us now go for a break.

Srikanth: Hey Nascar to me is a sophisticated traffic cam coverage. Not my cup of Japanese green Tea.

Kyoto Treaty

This took effect yesterday. What is this? In order to prevent global warming Nations of the world have agreed to reduce their green house gas emissions. What are green house gases? Emissions [from Industries or Automobiles etc.] of Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulphurhexfluoride.

Experts believe that increase in global temperatures will melt the ice caps, this will increase the sea level, which in turn will affect the weather conditions, that will affect agriculture , public health etc.

What it is called “Kyoto”, this treaty was drawn up in 1997 in Koyto Japan. This commits industrialized nations to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, principally Carbon Dioxide to 5.2% below their 1990 levels over the next decade. This was an ongoing process for more than 7 years. In today’s fast growing and moving world, the initial version of this treaty was very tough to maintain hence in 2002, a scale down version was drawn in Bonn Germany. Main target of this treaty was to reduce or limit emissions in 35 industrialized countries, including India and China.

USA back out out this in 2001, The Bush administration says the treaty would hurt the US economy. It also says this will be ineffective and it is discriminatory because large, rapidly industrializing countries escape the limits. Bush Government did not accept the special treatment for India and China. What is the special treatment? India and China are rapidly developing countries with huge population and size, hence they were given extra time to implement these environment changes.

There was no reason for US to equate itself with India here, however they did it and they are out of this treaty. Seeing US withdraw, Russia now plays a major role. Actually I see this to be a missed opportunity for the US, going into this deal will actually enhance their economy. How? Simply US could have sold lot of technology concerning green house gas reduction to developing nations like India and China; they could recover some salvage on their mammoth size trade deficit with China especially. Russia is going to gain a lot in getting technology to India and China.
The US is now on the side line, [with Australia carrying drinks, yes they also walked out with them.] watching this treaty and its implementation.

I really don’t know if this treaty would reduce global warming or not, also I really don’t care about ice melting in North Pole. It is Santa’s problem; however I am concerned about pollution in my home country that needs to be controlled. Hope this treaty sets India onto the right path towards clean environment.

US government now has plans to have their own standards maintaining the green house gases levels. However it is for the states within the country to deal this issue.

On US government in-house green house plan, I hope their plan covers Mexican foods, which is a major contributor to green house gases, at least in public transport systems of this country.

varalaaru.com [வரலாறு.காம்]

Do you see the banner on the right column of this Blog? And I believe out of curiosity many should have clicked over it and visited varalaaru.com.

Varalaaru.com is run by a team of talented young professionals. So what? I do have my history text book, actually they don't publish information right out of any history text books; they go to various historically significant places around Tamil Nadu and conduct research before publishing in their website. The pictures and articles are originals and copy righted.

How was this group formed? “The internet” All of them met via a yahoo group dedicated to the famous historical novel from Kalki, “ponniyin selvan”. I am sure Kalki would not have envisioned that his work would unite a group of people who would then research about ancient history of Southern India.

This team initially planned to visit every historical place described in the novel. During these trips they got the acquaintance of Dr. Kalaikkovan, a renowned historian and the convener of Dr. M.Rajamanikkanar Centre for Historical Research. On Aug 15th 2004, they launched www.varalaaru.com. [Varalaaru in Tamil means history]. Tamil written and spoken today is different from what they used during those periods. Using this acquaintance this team first learnt how to interpret inscriptions.

After trained in reading the ancient inscriptions, they slowly gained the knowledge to appreciate temple architecture and sculptures. The initial mission statement of this website is sharing their findings to the world.

Keeping this mission intact, this website publishes materials as a monthly publication; every issue contains tons of new information about ancient inscriptions and architectures and sculptures around Tamil Nadu. They have published many articles which are very interesting to read. The team pools personal fund from their own earnings and have been slowly rolling. I wish they get proper funding from any government based archeological grants or may be the discovery channel.

Why Discovery Channel? First they are rich, and if you watch the Discovery History channel, it makes you believe that there is nothing to talk about ancient civilizations beyond Egypt. Most of the time, it is mummy autopsy. For a change they could cover our south Indian architecture and sculptures.

I came to know about this site through my good friend Ram. He is one among the devoted team instrumental in getting all this done. His new article is about an ancient music instrument called “Yaz” [யாழ்], as a musician it was very interesting to read.

A request to the team, this site is in Tamil; in order to draw non Tamilians or international audience it would be nice to have an English version.

Please Make a visit to http://www.varalaaru.com

Reminiscence [நினைவுகள்]

Here is my next musical release called “Reminiscence”[நினைவுகள்]

An instrumental track after about a year or so. Composing instrumental music has been my first passion. This is a simple melody based on few south Indian ragas that has been layered over a chord progression.

Try to monitor each part in the track; every part has a meaning and goal. Each part interact with one and another, they come and go as counterpoints or melody lines or harmonies and fillers etc. Watch out for some unconventional chord placements and drum rolls.

For English version of the website Click here
For Tamil version of the website Click here

Hope you enjoy the track.

My Bloglogue - Feb 14th 2005

My cousin sent me a link to read, it was something very peculiar. Here is the info; a person has developed a type of paper and Ink that is made of edible materials, which means from now you can eat the cookies and its wrapper. The printer's cartridges are loaded with fruit and vegetable concoctions instead of ink, and the paper tray contains edible sheets of soybean and potato starch.

The inventor says this is will revolutionize the magazine advertisements. He says people can now sample the actual product advertised. In a pizza advertisement apart from cutting the coupons, you will now have the actual pizza sample for tasting. Just tear it - munch it – if you like it - then go order it.
Some might call it wonderful invention; however, I find it really bizarre. Usually I read the morning news paper during my breakfast however from now the newspaper itself will be my break fast. What next! A low carb News paper or a fat free Vanilla flavored Personal column? In my opinion Humans are slowly being converted to donkeys instead. Here is the link

Sapthaswarngal
The Sapthaswarngal on Suntv has introduced a new format; they now invite a full size band to prove their skill. Collage Bands now compete with their entire orchestra. The output is more of a coordinated team work. Being an instrumentalist myself, I would feel in secured at times when the vocalist gets the limelight. Frankly most background artists, at least whom I know take pain to play every chord with its proper inversions from the original composition. Many times no one cares to spots this effort. We are left to talk among ourselves about it.

I feel this format is very good and encouraging. Yesterday, the first team [HT] sang title theme from Hey Ram, they played the backgrounds very well, and Lead & backing vocals were also very good. The second team sang Tamiza Tamiza, backgrounds were done very well and backing vocals were good, however the vocalists let them down.

The first 15 minutes were taken by the judges Mr. Thomas, the hall of fame Trumpet exponent and Mr. Naveen one more hall of fame Flute Vidwan. These 2 wind experts have lent their breath to most film songs regardless of language for last 10 or more years.

They played a theme for the Tsunami victims; it started of quite well, however frankly after 5 minutes I started to feel the drag. They could have asked the college bands to play some chords/Bass instead of jarring unison key note all through the 15 minutes. With all due respects to Mr. Thomas and Mr. Naveen, Trumpet and different kinds of flute playing new age music without any kind of chord progression or at least a bass was really boring for my ears. They could have let the College bands play 2 more songs in that time.

Tamil pronunciations
I use to crib about Tamil pronunciations of SunTV Video Jockeys., however I happened to watch the program called “ninaivugal” , Yes, it is another show about movies but they take an old classic Tamil movie and throw in good anecdote on the movie. What is the big deal? The VJ of this show talks very good Tamil, She was totally different from the regulars who often suffer from an “Illness” that stops them from pronouncing certain syllables, Divya Kasthuri talks very good Tamil with perfect pronunciation. I wish she takes a crash course to the all VJs out there. This show airs at Saturday evenings.

For my friends who complain about watching Sun TV, guys! No NFL and what else to do during the weekend when the temperature out there was less than 30f with a wind chill of 1f.

Happy Valentines Day!

What is the Deal?

I never get this logic, Difference between pet animals and edible animals? Ok I get one thing on having an adorable pet animal, it is better than having a wife or a husband; because the poor animal never replies or comments about your esteemed opinions and they don’t come with the “IN-Law” baggage.

Many today are obsessed with their pets; this obsession is seen more in the west. I am not complaining here about having pets, I want to know the 10 yard line or the batting crease that divides two zones, tell me this, where is the cut off line which decides the “pet ness” for an animal.

Yesterday NPR [National Public Radio] featured a Fish Doctor . He operated [“surgery”] a Gold fish called “Dragon Boy” who had complications in swimming straight. Thanks to the Vet, today the fish is hale & healthy and will go on to live for its full life span of 15 years. A noble deed by the doctor, he helped the little Golden boy [தங்கமகன்] who will be swimming in a 5x5 fish tank rest of his life or until his father finds him.

My point here is why people seem to have soft corner to gold and other fancy looking fish alone, may be the gold fish uses “fair and lovely” or some other fairness lotion to get the special treatment? Why the Gold fish is not part of the lunch menu? Does it taste or smell bad, duh, in my opinion Fish and smell are something like the letter “Q” and “U”, they cannot be separated.

I remember when I was in Seattle, Circus was in town, but there was also a protest in down town on their visit. This was by a group that claimed circus shows causes pain to animals; their claim was “Animals are being ill treated for human entertainment”. I agree, yes I am sure if you ask a bear about riding a motor cycle in front of crowd, he would whine more than humans. Or elephants standing on 2 legs with their front legs on another elephant’s back. Has anyone checked with the Elephants how and what they feel about putting their legs on fellow elephant's “..ss” ?

However, coming back to the protest, after the protest, lunch was served; a huge line was waiting to get the main course, which included chicken patties and bacon cheese pasta. What did the poor chicken or the cow do to them for not getting their attention, what did the bears, the elephants and the camels do to get their support and special treatment?

I have seen “pet” [not vet] hospitals in discovery animal planet. Most hospitals are well equipped and are like star hotels. There was a psychiatrist ward Yes! People are ready to spend on Dog depressions. Why this A308 1st class treatment for Dogs and Cats alone? What did the poor Goat, Cow or the Pigs do to the humans, why are these animals ruthlessly shown the guillotine?

I wish someone explains me the line? Yes skeptics! Will come after me and tell hey even plants have life why take away, Dude! I am not talking about vegetarianism here, I really don’t care if you eat meat or not, I just talking about consistency in eating habits, a veggie eats any veggie that is not poisonous to him. Take the Chinese; they take anything that moves with some flesh. There is no pretending love for the animals, very consistent. But the western society is very biased and has a clueless inconsistent eating habit. They pretend to be kind of few animals but go after others with an axe. Why?

Meet eaters of west, just think about this when you see a special pet treatment next time. Have a good weekend folks.

Its about Time.

My Bloglogue

Yesterday Aishwariya Rai was on David Letterman show. Letterman gave a good introduction on her and Bollywood; he also pulled his usual sarcastic faster ones. However she handled it all very well and at one point of time when letterman asked how she came to this movie world etc, she answered him very well and went on to ask him very casually how in the first place he came to this job? I was surprised when she mentioned that her Hindi senior films stars do not like the word “Bollywood”. Aish can talk 4 languages apart from English. This four includes [broken] Tamil. She has no plans to move to Hollywood.

A good evening and a pride moment to see her on Letterman show. Many might think what the big deal is, frankly – it is an indication, it an indication that Indians cannot be ignored anymore and Aish is just a start, world will be seeing many more top Indians from other fields that are in par with their western counter parts.

F16 Deal
India has sent a request to the US for procuring F16 fight plans. This was announced by our Air Force Chief S.K. Thayagi. However USA is not given any reply in this accord. India's air force Chief S.K. Tyagi told reporters that New Delhi is seeking to buy 125 fighter jets, had invited information from Lockheed Martin Corp. In the past India had relied on Russian fighters but is now seeking to diversify or may be for more stability. India had also sent a request for Northrop Grumman Corp's Hawkeye 2000 airborne early warning aircraft. Indian navy has already procured these aircraft. The United States is keen to improve its market share of India's defense equipment. This strategic relationship is aided by India's economic liberalization and a common cause in global war on terror.

Studio1234 News
I completed my next instrumental score, should be online in couple of days or latest by next week. This score was first written for my friend Balaji for his stage play. However during the period I fell sick and was not able to complete the score. Nevertheless I did complete this instrumental work. A set of proper chords progression for an Indian melody will be the highlight of the score. Watch out for this in my website in few days.

Some more news on my website, my site now has dedicated Tamil page. It is high time for me get into the Tamil Unicode stream, by this the message is clear, I am loyal to my mother tongue. However, as I have visitors who do not speak my language for their benefit my website would still continue to follow the dual language principles.:)

Finally,
Today is the new year for every 4th guy born, meaning every 4th child in the world today is from China. I was kidding. Seriously, A very happy new year to all my Chinese friends and their families; It is the year of “Roaster” so another full of year of “kokarako Gumanggo”.

Super Bowl Sunday!

The super bowl started off great pomp and glamour, watching this on High definition was at real treat. The sound was in 5.1 Dolby Digital. I wish I could get cricket in HD with 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound.

When you talk about Super Bowl, first things that come to our mind are the commercials. Commercials slots were priced at 2.5 Million for 30 seconds, lot of money to spend in just 30 seconds.

This time, I felt only 3 commercials were different and one of them was really funny. Bud Light Commercial where the pilot jumps from the plane. Other two new ideas I liked were the monkey office and the one from the mortgage company. Other than these three, all other commercials had nothing to talk much about. May be in order to kill time during their show a TV show host may have something to discuss for a whole day and laugh about it.

In my opinion, the best show during the super bowl Sunday was the half time show by Paul McCartney. The Beatle rocked some of the top hits including my favorite “Get Back”, and “Hey Jude”. I grew up listening to the Beatles; frankly I would have a listened at least a zillion times the songs “Get back” and “Hey Jude”. The guitar parts for get back were played with perfection and matched the original tonality and score. Simply Amazing!

Though Sir Paul looked lip syncing for “live and let die”, hey! Singing in front of a 100,000+ in an open stadium, considering his age - this is a task in itself. And we did not have any wardrobe mal-function this time. I think more than the game itself I felt the half time show was out of the world. May be, I am crazy, biased and out raging Beatles fan.

But comedy of all comedies was to call the super bowl winner the world champions. I know everyone talks about this but continues the same trend every year. Again this year winner was called as world champions, halo how?

Following this tradition, though it is late, it is time to award my friends Logu and Karthi the world champs ring, if you wonder who these mortals are?, they are defending “sOnggu” world champs, “sOnggu” is an incredible game played with marbles and bare hands , where the loser is make to boil “porridge”. Logu has won tons of accolades while Karthi is next to him in statistics. Btw: sOnggu is the lower end version of today’s multimillion dollar golf, often played in street corners of Chennai.

Seriously, can we call Ranji trophy winners as world champs and make a fool of ourselves; I wish instead of ridiculing themselves and real world class sports, it is time for the media and NFL to change the title to “NFL champs” rather than world champs. There are 150+ other courtiers who don’t have a clue about this game yet. There is no other country competing in it, other countries playing and living up to the standards is another point of discussion, but the fact is – NFL is a local affair.

NFL is a great game and great show to watch, I have no doubt it; however I cannot take it, when you play among AFC and NFC, call the winner as world champs. Hey! World is much bigger.

Oh Finally, NE Pats won, they are now Lord of the Super Bowl Rings. Experts were busy talking about Dynasty. What ever, in my opinion this time the Super Bowl game was not that great, both teams played as though it was their first game of the season. Eagles especially; still I am unable to comprehend the fact that “Tom Brady” is the greatest quarterback around now. However don’t want to take anything away. A win is Win. Congratulations to the New England Patriots, they are the NFL champs.

Guess What?

I happen to watch a movie on DVD, let me narrate you the story and see if you could guess the movie.

Once upon a time, there lived a “Dad” ZMD. Chakravarthy [Vijay Kumar] and a Mom Zmdrs Rani [Lakshmi ] Ps:Zmd=Zamindar Zmdrs = Zamindarainee

Both had a girl child [17 year old Pudhu mugam] she grew up as free girl who goes around the village, sings songs and plays with her friends.
However after the 1st reel, outside the village border, she meets a strong handsome guy; let us call him Sarath Kumar,he as 2 friends "Gowndamani and Senthil". They both get attracted and fall in love. Dont get me wrong. I meant Sarth Kumar and the new face. For next 2 reels, they go to many places; they dance, sing songs and make merry.

However as expected Vijay Kumar [Dad guy] spots them together. They are caught red handed. At once, he splits them up. He instructs his daughter to stay away from Sarath, Her mother warns that Sarath Kumar’s dad was actually her uncle [Pasupathy], a.,k.a her dad’s first cousin. He was the traitor in the family who wanted to acquire the wealth. He was banished by her grand father [Vinoo chakaravarthy] from the village for more than a generation now, she fails to believe the story, but following Movie, Tele serial tradition she obeys her father and his words with tears.

Pasupathy appears only in the flash back, he is done and gone, Sarath Kumar now has a mom [Vadivukkarasi], who is the widow of the bad guy - Pasupathi, she is a well qualified evil women waiting to settle accounts with Vijay Kumar. She smears about Vijay Kumar to Sarath and instructs him not to go to the other village.

After all this, Sarath Kumar and Pudhu mugam plans to run away from the village. But they are caught by Vijay Kumar again, new face pleads to her father; finally get the dads’ nod, ZMD. Vijay Kumar accepts Sarath Kumar as his son-in-law forgetting the past.

The wedding is planned, on the wedding day the evil women shows up with her army of “bottom line soldiers” [“அடி ஆள்”] and frames Sarath Kumar to be a spy. She cooks a story that Sarath was sent by her to takeout Vijay Kumar. But our Sarath is good guy, he denies this conspiracy theory, he fights against his moms bottom line soldiers and wins, finally after a full scale SuLLan level fighting among both the villages, the evil lady gets killed, she falls from a hill on to a running river.

Later the villagers joins hands and becomes friends once again; Sarath and new face get married and live happily ever after.

Can you guess this movie?

The Ground hog Day and the Claptometer Part 1

Today is ground hog Day. What is its significance? Feb 2nd, Ground hogs [small rodent looking animals] are supposed to come out their burrows after waking up from their hibernation. When they come out, farmers in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania predict spring arrival time based on their shadow and other technicalities. Today they gave their long prognosis, they predicted the spring arrival time. ETA [expected time of arrival] six weeks. .It is going to be cold for 6 more weeks.

But, I have never seen a ground hog walking out by itself from its burrow.Ok, I agree it is a small fun filled activity in the name tradition, but has anyone checked it with the poor ground hog? Has his hibernation really ended? Poor fellow is often seen being pulled out from his natural sleep. He would blink in front of a huge crowd and wired looking men busy checking his bottom. Will humans let any one do this to them? Assume, a huge group of people standing outside your house screaming, another group of five with cylindrical hats pull you out of your bed on cold wintry morning and check something that you have no clue about? , how many of us will take or face such treament?.

The west makes fun of rituals in developing world, however west also seem to have handful of ridicules ceremonies in the name of tradition. NBC Today show carried this event live, Katie Couric was amazed by this while Matt Lauer was seen banging his head on a near by table.

Today President Bush will be delivering his State of the Union address. All the TV stations, Radio Stations, Railway stations and Gas stations will be carrying it live. Streets around Capitol hill Washington DC will be closed.

The New PC Nightmare

Do you know that Microsoft recommends getting their software from Dell is the best method to obtain it legally? Oh yawn! Microsoft certifies legitimacy if you buy it from Dell. They give you a hologram embalmed nicely on a virtual golden button that reads “You are a believer“. Alright, all this to make Bill Gates and his cronies believe that we don’t use software illegally. Agreed, world is ruthless on piracy. As a musician myself, I am totally against piracy. But being a genuine user it comes with high price tag, it causes great agony.

Has one recently got a new Dell PC that is loaded with legal copy of windows XP Pro? When you start the brand new Dell PC for the first time, a rectangle dialogue box shows up with text boxes lined up like a freight train, it will read “please enter the product activation key”.

An activation key is a long cryptic message handpicked by experts from Nerdy tribes that live in the valleys of Mount Rainier near Washington State. This can contain alphabets from our planet, many letters and signs from Mars, Uranus and Pluto. Framing this key is part their tribal tradition. Microsoft says creating such activation keys will prevent software piracy. Let me assure you, if you tell me that this will prevent piracy, I take it as a bad joke. Who ever framed this activation key schema should be a sadist. A software pirate will never be hindered by this key. He/She has no bid deal in copying this by using a copier. Having paid for this, it is the legal users who suffer the most.

Most human beings find it very difficult to enter an activation key. And for Typo experts like me it is a mind boggling task. Halo! When you buy from Dell with Microsoft certification, why the hell I should again enter the key? Why can’t it be done automatically? Here goes the doubting Thomas, hey buddy “it is after all a key? Why can’t you enter it and be done with it”, oh Mr. Skeptic, it is easy to say than doing it., the agony multiplies more now, listen, I first look around not knowing where to find the key, I peruse the puny manual just to find it was printed using recycled material. Like a pregnant cat I walk around the empty cartons searching for something, I find some number xwrtyzxbchdjnnchsgdjshyurere , I type this with great care, NOP sorry, invalid number that was the bar code.

Ok, some where some how, I come to know where to find this key. The label that contains the sanctified hologram and the certification key is stuck somewhere in the left side right bottom of the pc. In other words Dell meticulously places the key label at “the PC’s ass”. We are forced to look under the pc to read this anaconda.

Frankly, when it comes to this activation key I feel the entire world goes ½ blind; at first instance I only saw a silvery shining rainbow like hologram. Dam, now the next task will be to search for a torch light, its battery and rest of its family members.

The one I found made my life more ridicules. The illumination I got was inferior to an “Agarbathi”. In order to get it going, I had to do some moments with it, four years of using this torch light I am now a qualified person who could taxi a Boeing 747 to its dock quite comfortably. Well, no result yet, very dull light to read this anaconda sized activation key. Finally! Bless the lord; bright light came up after some massive pats and spanks on its …SS.

The pc now stands [in an angle] like a car as though that needs a tire rotation, I quickly make note of the key[zxcv12f-jkilks10-sumbanai-kapathu] [Translation: one more dumb windows user, god help him], I go back and type it, wow! It goes through well, the system starts after initializing. I thought “ok” may be I over reacted.

I had ordered Ms Office professional edition, which is about $250 extra. I start MS-WORD, “ding” a dialogue box shows up asking for a key! , a dog from nowhere suddenly appeared on the screen; it barked and as though indicating something it stood there lifting its third leg. “Do you want help?”

Dam, did I not enter the key already, or may be, being the defending “Typo world Champion” I should have made some typo some where in the mid part of the anaconda. I could have missed some of the “plutonian” characters. God!, the whole nine yards once again and had one more “darshan” [clear view] of the holy hologram, I turned the light boy off, hence one more time the “747 Taxi dance and so on..

Why can’t the Experts at Microsoft come up with a better system? Why should we be teased in spite of paying for this? Didn’t I get the stuff legally from a Microsoft certified Dell.com?

Time to fire the Tyrant

Once again the cricketing world hears news on Umpire Steve Bucknor. He has reported that he received threatening phone calls. If this is true, it is very bad for cricket. This is after all a game. Mr. Bucknor is currently umpiring the England South Africa series in SA. But today, South African police have released a report that there is no substance to his claim. Frankly, now, I really doubt this threat issue in first place. As per media reports Mr. Bucknor had a poor showing during the current test series. He had lots of confrontation with the South African captain.

In order to cover his irresponsible show man ship during the test series, Mr. Bucknor is now trying to gain sympathy by diverting the issue. I may be speculating, why? going by various incidents in the past, I am forced to agree to the media reports on Mr. Bucknor.

In my opinion, Steve Bucknor, without doubt is a terrible umpire, apart from his poor judgment of the game, he goes one step further and tries to push undue influence on the players. He is often caught behaving like a tyrant managing director. There are innumerable poor decisions given by him that affect the result of the game. Indians have gone through his ridiculous methods of shoddy umpiring.

Hope we all remember how he treated Patel, he might be a school kid , but he is playing for India. He is an international cricketer representing his country, That itself demands respect from Officials. Mr. Bucker over stepped and treated him like a school kid, Mr. Bucknor behaved like a school head master. There was no need to do that. He just wanted to show what he is all about. He got away from this.

Who can ever forget his cheap mockery of Rahul Dravid’s during the ball tampering issue? Considering the responsibility and job portfolio of Umpires, they are similar to judges in the court of law. Their main responsibility is to enforce the rules of the game. They are expected to maintain a decent decorum. We all still remember how Mr. Bucknor mimed to ridicule Dravid. Let me tell you Rahul Dravid is no banana player, he tops most cricketing rating today one of the icon of the game, he is known of his sportsmanship and calm heads down behavior during the game. He was insulted by Mr. Bucknor witnessed by the entire world, is it right for an umpire to behave in such a manner? ICC or BCCI did nothing about this till date. He got away.

In Australia, Mr. Bucknor gave the most ridicules LBW decision known to mankind. This time the victim was one Mr. Sachin Tendulkar. To me and most he is the best batsmen in the world today. Why Mr. Bucknor gave such a poor decision? If you think that decision was by mistake consider yourself as naive. I am sorry, No! Mr. Bucknor wanted to show the world that even the best batsman in the world is under his control. When someone is branded to be the best umpire in the world how can he miss such a no brainer decision? Like everyone watching the game Mr. B clearly knew it was a simply a ridicules decision.

Once again the world supported him by saying umpires are also human, hey! Let me tell you, when you cannot watch the ball from 22 yards I really don’t know a better place to watch the ball. Your sole job is to watch the ball period. I really don’t agree the weak claim that Mr. B did it by mistake; he did it to establish his power. He is guilty he knows it.

In the ongoing South Africa Vs England series, Bucknor started his drama to prove his authority, finally South African captain gave up to Mr. Bucknor, Yes! Smith did utter something to the umpire that was un-parliamentary; but ICC fails to note that all this incidents were fuelled by the sheer frustration of the fact that Mr.Bucknor had turned down three plumb LBW decisions against Graeme Thorpe. Two appeared to be definition decisions, meaning we can use them as specimens to explain what LBW is all about. Smith is very cool guy and plays genuine cricket. I think going by past records, Mr. Bucknor’s ego is the culprit again.

Who is going to account for this? How long the players and fans take these atrocious decisions and behavior of Steve Bucknor? Don’t they pay thousands of Rupees or Dollars or Rands to watch a genuine game, Why ICC is ignoring this poison ivy and letting it grow?

Today, ICC should not permit umpires like Steve Bucknor to steal the game for their self-centered causes. No one is indispensable, no one is bigger than the game, and hence it is high time to fire this guy mercilessly. It seems he was a soccer umpire, send him back there, cricket fans are too polite. He does not deserve politeness.

The 5 second Chat.

When Sun TV news rolls back after a break, the news readers speak or whisper something among them selves, I use to wonder what they would speak in that 5 second time. Today we have technology to over hear them, to my surprise they cover many topic in 5 seconds, using latest technology called Dish-DTOHTNR, I was able to find out what they were talking. See below.

1/27/05

Yesteday Evening after work.,

Yesterday, I went back home and was taken back, Sun TV pumped in special programs for Republic day. I stepped in at about 6.45pm [EST]. A quiz competition among school kids Wow! Sun TV and good programming was an oxymoron however since I had no other “removing” work [aka. kazatara vellai], I decided to watch TV.

There was Team A, Team B, Team C and so on until Team H. Seriously I have never seen a Quiz show with more than 4 teams. Here it was different, 8 teams with 3 members in each, more or less like a round examination hall. The quiz master must be thanking god, he was sitting; else he would need an auto to come back to his home base after every round. Each team was provided with a 15inch CRT monitor, while the quiz master was given a flat panel.

My wife told me that Quiz master was Abi’s Ex-husband. Oh! Now I see why Abi divorced him. Basically this guy could talk only from a script; he cannot talk directly of his head. A quiz master is often seen extempore; here it looked like he was waiting for a prompting voice to appear, which he would then simple repeat along with the prompter. Bayangara bore.

Sun TV continuing their love and affection towards cinema, opted to show movies clips in the quiz, poor kids expecting something more academic were seen blinking for most questions. Also there were some easy questions which the kids failed. Where was the salt Satyagraha held in Tamil Nadu?, most kids told “no idea”. The quick fire round was a mockery , but the most stupid round was the clue round, it seems this guy will give 3 clues for a question, points will reduce as the clue increases. But the poor kid had only once chance to answer. In First place kids needs to give an answer loud in order get evaluated, if it is wrong they can go for more clues. But they get only 1 chance to answer. Totally Bizarre! A very poor QUIZ show, I think it is better for Sun TV to stick to “kokarako gumango” themes. However I don’t want to take away anything from the kids, they did quite well and they took it very seriously.

But after this entire quiz blitz, came the movie, drum roll please…a movie called “Dud” oops Red, featuring Ajith and many other people who would not have seen the camera after this movie. I am tired of using the word “Crap”, is there any other word for this movie, yes “RED”. From today, we have new set of Positive, Comparative and Superlative in English, Crap – Craptaculor – RED. People, from now “Red the movie” shall be a Superlative adjective.

Ajith had a new look - shaved head and giant size Red “kungumam” it was more or less a Equator that ran across his fore head. Some in USA might confuse him with a Stop Sign. I felt only the “kodali” was missing; else his make up would work perfectly for a Parasuramer getup, Mr. Ram Anandji should make a note of it.Ajith’s pronunciation was quite comical. Hear him say the word “Lovely” next time. Anyways, when a 10 pound feather weight Sullan or Kullan can kick people 200 times heaver than him, why not Ajith? Like other top action hero’s Ajith makes sure he ridicules the law of aero dynamics, law of physics, chemistry, botany, history, geography, PT etc. Once he just bends a 20x10 dagger with his hand. I doubt if we could even do this with a hammer.

An Anecdote,in the classic MGR thriller Idyakkani?, MGR and Thenga Srini goes in foreigner disguise to the enemy hide out on a speed boat. They introduce themselves as Mr. Red and Mr. Black. Anyway, the movie reaches its height when Ajith gives an expansion to the word RED – Revolution, Education and Development. That’s it my Hitachi TV turned itself off and went into deep hibernation mode. I never saw the completion of the movie “RED”.

New Tamil Song Release

Folks, my next Tamil song written by Udhaya and sung by Suren is available now for free down load in my website. Please feel free to download and please pass across this information to your friends and family.

This song was composed for prewritten lyrics. I have been bugging Udhaya for quite some time to write songs with a punk rock flavor. I call it CurryRock tm. I felt such musical emotions are very rare in Tamil light music world.

Udhaya at once answered my call and sent me the words at once. When I read the chorus lines for the first time, believe it or not, the tune started to appear right away in my head. Basically, anything you do with music, the words are the soul for inspiration. If the words are weak, it takes time to compose however if the words are powerful, the entire score seems to evolve automatically. Quickly every part fell into its place.

When I Audition someone apart from singing with proper pitch/key there is one more layer that I look for in every singer I audition. The singer should be able to convey the emotion in the words and in the score. I have come across singers who sing in perfect pitch. They focus so much to align their pitch however in this process they tend to miss the emotion completely, their singing ends up dry. Bottom line, I prefer working with singers with tons of emotions. Suren is one such singer in my neck of the woods, Baltimore MD.; he did a neat job in singing this track for me. I also chipped in high pitched backing vocals in few places.
Finally, when ever you cook something new you need a good taster standing next to you. Thanks to Sridhar Seetharaman [NJ] for sitting with me during serious composing sessions.

So with all this "hype" in mind, Please visit my website and download this song and please send me a feed back. Frankly, the feed back is the only thing that helps me boost my morale to compose more.

It is after all a....

People, God sends us indirect messages in our life every day. But we tend to miss most of them, thanks to rapid commercialization by the manufacturing world. It is getting insane day by day. They are trying to exploit your daily needs. I see you are confused by now, you are thinking what the hell I am talking about; Ok, here it is, I am taking about shaving blades.

Life was very easy when we had standard razor blade with 2 opposite edges. A box full of it was less than a dollar. A simple holder will open and we place the blade on it. That’s it. This did the job quite well. These standard blades had additional uses, it can sharpen pencils, open sealed boxes, draw doodles on Electric trains, school rest rooms, this also created a well known slang to denote people like me, [SrikanthA avan sema “blade” machi].

This multipurpose work horse came with a very small price tag. An average adult in 80’s [not the T.Rajendar kind] spent something less than Rs 5.00 for their shaving razor. Life was simple for the consumer.

Soon, the blade-people wanted a performance review, only way to get a pay hike is increase their profits, the Razor manufactures planned on a major conspiracy to increase their profits. It worked and it is working for so many years now. What was this plan?

Eureka! One “Razologist” said hey why don’t we invent a single sided razor? So that people don’t get one side for free. And seeing humans becoming lazy to wash their old shaving blades, they added the disposable tag to it, meaning it came with a ready made handle, the blade was molded to the Handle. Bottom line, a multipurpose tool whose life time was about 1 week of shaving and 1 week for domestic tasks was cut short to 2 days, poor thing was thrown out for recycle in the name of hygiene.

As expected people fell for it, the single edged razor made some money, but very soon another Razo geek added the second edge that they took out from the previous and gave the world the twin razor shaving blade, the poor old razor was broken into 2 and placed one below another.

Yes, People fell for it again, most men, thinking that a super model would show up from some where in the elevator to touch and feel their 2x2 rectangle face went for it right away. The cost of this twin was triple to its predecessors.

But the “Bladiacs” [like Maniacs] thought this was not enough, there was scope to make more money, they came up with another rip off, this time the twins became triplets but to make it more effective they added fancy words like Titanium, Molybdenum Francium as its prefix. Most who shaved with this had no idea what elements have to do with shaving. They just know these fancy names came from their chemistry teacher’s periodic tables. Hence it must be something scientific. They flocked stores like Costco and Sam club which sold them in bulk and got the big giant size boxes and displayed them proudly. Mind it; “all the versions do exactly the same work”

I am really wondering why we need so much selection for a product that does the same work as its pervious versions, with a very high price tag. It is a clear rip off.
After all this rip off for so many years, as if this was not enough, yesterday, I saw a commercial, yes you guessed it, they introduced a razor with 4 titanium edges in them. What else to say, the Bladiacs” are attacking once again.

People! Do not fall for them this time, trust me if you cannot shave with twin or triplet, the foursome is not going to do anything, still if you feel you need this, hey! it is about time to get a lawnmower instead.

Couch Pumpkin Union - CPU.

During the weekend, the snow gods were very generous; we had about 8 inches of snow.
The entire community was out with their snow shovels and loud music from their car stereos, for the first time, I felt energized to clean our drive way. It took me about an hour to clear 20,000 tons of white powdery snow.

I had nothing to do during the weekend [I can blame the snow for this], I spent the whole weekend as a couch pumpkin watching “TV”. Watched “Rhythm”, Directed by Vasanth, a good movie with very nice screen play, acting and music. I also watched some ESPN shows. It was an eye opener, I realized I am not the only jobless guy around, there are plenty like me and bad part is they are being paid well and I am not. They were groups of experts grinding football 24x7. I thoroughly enjoyed all the shows.

On Sunday heart was broken, Steelers fans went into mourning, reason, Pittsburgh Steelers were beaten by the New England Patriots. Steeler’s rookie quarter back was contained well. After all 15/1 did not make any impact during the finals;

Tom Brady, the Washington Post says he is a very average quarter back, I say this, talent is one element, but everything in life is all about being at the right place at the right time. If these 3 elements come to together Success is guaranteed. Today Manning and Culpepper would be watching and wondering about this chemistry.

“The Bus” Jerome Bettis one among the top running backs in NFL, never made it to the super bowl; this might be his last season. His NFL ambitions might end similar to that of Chris Carter, without a super bowl ring. “Abundant Talent” accepted but “the right place and right time” went against him. Looking forward for Eagles vs. NE; I am slightly partial to the Eagles. However I don’t want to bet on either.

My website is back working, uploaded some of my last years composition. Other things will follow, after a long gap I completed my next single [in Tamil] written by Udhaya, [Vocals by Surendran] scheduled to be released soon.

Movies I watched recently

Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi: Yet another Tamil Movie! It might have been interesting if the duration had been reduced to an hour and a half. However No, this movie nose dives at various places. The hero of this movie is Ravi , titled “Jayam” Ravi.

Someone must have told Ravi that acting means mere shouting in full throat and the elements like facial expression need not be used. Our hero simply shouts loud for every given emotion. The agony multiplies when praskash raj shows up. He talks quickly though it works in most movies, this movie it was mere comedy.

Nadiya , yes the same Nadiya who troubled teens during 80’s makes a come back [from London] as Ravi’s mother. She exits quickly as though her visa expired during the shoot. Vivek’s comedy was the only thing worth. Music by Srikanth Deva, No comments on the songs but the backgrounds music was mere sounds and effects. The sound engineer made sure he used all the 5.1 channels of DTS. The entire movie starts of similar to Rocky but becomes sentimental and ends as “Semakady”

Manmadan: I have become a great fan of Silambarasan. He has the talent. In fact, fantastic talent; Manmadan was kind of psycho subject, His acting was clean and powerful. The problem here once again was the script; it cannot be dragged for 3 hours. In spite of jothika, the script lost weight after the first half. However still I feel Silambarasan has the potential than other young heroes today. I wish he controls his passion for additional fittings like double earnings, bangles, bands etc. He just has to pick a good scripts and work with sane directors, I am sure he will be the next top star. I will keep watching out for his movies.

One thing I am seeing in all new movies, during olden day’s hero will meet the villain face to face.MGR/M.N.NAMBIYAR or SIVAJI/MNN or Rajini/Karate Mani or Kamal/Satyaraj . But in today's movies the combination is different,
It is mostly Vijay/Noika Ravi/Samsung Danush/Motorola, meaning, 50% of the dialogue are exchanged with villain via a cell phone. Why? Do they get more air time for free?

Yesterday DC was closed, weekend lots of snow and NFL plays off. :)
Have a good weekend,

Back Online.

My Web site is back online. Thanks to everyone who emailed me enquiring about the web site. Finally after a month, I had the time to recover data from the backups. Few Audio files are yet to be uploaded, it takes time due to the restricted up stream bandwidth; this should be completed by this weekend.

NFL
Vikes lost to Eagles, Eagles were favored by lady luck at various moments of the game. However a win is a win. Vikes played very badly. Steelers managed to win whew! a close call. This time lady luck helped Pittsburgh to win, an over time field goal saved them. Tell me this, How can NY Jets miss two easy field goals? Is this what we call as Destiny?.

New England put a giant size lid on Manning and he was shut down. Thanks to their defense and the snowy conditions. I felt Tom Brady did not do much. A good defense would take him down for nothing. NE won because of their powerful defense.
Steelers Face NE next week, A very good game to watch; However the best team I saw in action was Atlanta Falcons. I feel this was the only team that won the game with offense during the weekend. "Mich Vick was too quick" for the Rams!. I think I will put my money on the Falcons.

Mac Mini

Following their great success on IPODS, Apple has come out with their brand new gizmo, “the Mac mini”. It seems Apple’s goal is to get more people to use Mac.

Seriously! Apple Mac has some phenomenal user interface and system stability. The price is the main culprit that drives away customers. Usually when you configure a serious Apple Mac with all the power components included the price range will be something that you can trade in a new BMW 5 series in exchange.

Today PCs are very cheap and affordable; hence getting PC people to the Mac world is kind of tough. Keeping this mind, Apple surprisingly has set a price tag of $499 for Mac mini. I was shocked. I decided to check this out at once. There were many surprises. The best feature that matched the advertisement [“WYSIWYG”] was the size. The Mini Mac looked similar to a dot NET/C# book from Wrox publications. A petite 2-inch tall 6.5-inch square, reminded me of my favorite witty cartoon pal Mr. Square Pants. I was thrilled by the look and feel.My decision to cross over was round the corner, exactly like Apple had wanted.

But! There is always a catch [in this case caught and bowled]. This is a computer oops! A Mac that is being sold without the most essential peripherals of today’s computing world. The Mini Mac does not include a mouse, keyboard and the monitor. Pc world calls it a “Bare PC”. This so called tiny wonder comes with 256 MB ram, a slow hard drives often found on Notebooks, 32 MB of video memory and few standard ports. That’s it.

In short, it was a pizza base with little sauce painted on it. Toppings are not standard. The sticker price for this bare Mac was $499. However! You are welcome to choose your prefered toppings but that is going to increase the pizza oops Mac Mini’s price so much that you might end up going for a second mortgage. A decent Apple Mini configuration [as per today’s standard] will cost you in the range of $2000. For the same price, you can get a Windows Box with some real power from Dell. Yes! Windows box will not look cute! But who cares, of course I hear "Mac owners do”. The pity is they've been sold the emperors new clothes once again.

I also don’t understand the fuss over this price mark down in the Mac world. Frankly this so called mark down will do nothing to attract the PC people. How can Mac consider this mini minus the essentials components to be a cross over bridge?

Yes I hear Mac owners will claim about the stability, but being in the PC world for more than 14 years now, I will say multimedia power has improved on the other side also. These days all the major Multimedia software have Windows version. They work perfectly under windows.

Of course I cannot stop the Apple lovers to assume Apple Mini to be another “Wisdom Fruit” [Gana pazam] from its makers. All the adherent Apple Mac fans will be very happy about Mini Mac; they will continue their appreciation one more time for the brand new cloths for their emperor. I jokingly told the sale man I would have got this Mini Mac at least it they had kept a hidden compartment to store my lunch and snacks.I guess it was too much to ask, they don’t have even the computer essential how will they care for my daily essentials.

Wish you all a very happy Pongal.

Bad Taste

For last few months I have been reading in many Indian news sites about something that makes me really uncomfortable. This outsourcing issue is being made more political everyday; there are groups here who behave in a crude and cheap manner to show their displeasure. Fellow Indians back home are simply forced to face this rude behavior. The most affected in this are the call centers folks.

These ridiculous acts are done by people who really don’t know about the root of the out sourcing issue. Most these days do it for the sake of gaining popularity. Of late radio shock jocks and DJ from various stations have joined this list. They are calling call centers in India, talk to these centers using cheap vulgar languages with racial twinge, the agony is these calls go live on air. They make fun of Indians and finally call it a prank.
"It is an increasing trend," "It's not because we like it, or we want jobs to leave the U.S. The issue is that the demands on IT are growing, while the budgets continue to shrink. We really are asked to do more with less, and we just cannot fund it in the U.S."
Tsvi Gal, CIO at Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Music Group in New York.

Recently shock jock radio guys from Philly area had called a call center in India and used very dirty language insulting everyone around. These DJs request their listeners to call India everyday for 30 about Minutes and do the same. So that people back there get frustrated and starts screaming back. Our guys are now trained to handle insults, I don’t get this Instead I want Indian companies to set up office here and go after these public racial slanders in the name of prank.
Let me ask, why don’t these so called DJs and SJs call the John Welch’s of this country, do they have the guts to do the same to them instead. Bottom line here is, it is them who go for outsourcing to save money.
Outsourcing of jobs has become a sensitive issue, and President George W. Bush has largely avoided the subject in public appearances during the political campaign. Some of his economic advisers have said that exporting labor to low-cost countries will reduce business costs, boost companies' financial performance and thereby improve the U.S. economy.
MSNBC NEWS

India is not junk yard where people wander around looking for American outsourcing. We cannot or do not tolerate insults in any form. The Indian community here in the US and back home are well educated, sincere and clearly talented people who mind their business. Indians here have already raised this issue to FCC and these shock jocks were suspended for a day.

However the idea to call India and insult the poor call center employee is totally absurd and childish, I will now quote what every media here says often “IT IS NOT-AMERICAN” to behave in this fashion. Where did so called Value go here? I really don’t know. In fact even the elite TV anchors like Lou Dobbs who clearly ridicule India, don’t have guts to ask the CEOs here, including the CEOs of his own parent company.

Anything today in world is bound towards rapid globalization. It is a pity that people are not prepared to accept the fact, this decision to go to India for outsourcing was not taken by India or Indians. It was a decision made by many US companies and its CFO/CEOs with a clear nod from the US Government. If at all you want to show your displeasure on outsourcing, please scream or nose cry to your CEOs and CFOs.

ZIP IT

There is no use talking about the so called extra sense [“puguthaRivu”] if you don’t posses the basic Arivu [common sense.] Tamil script and dialogue writers should be more responsible and should not use this Tsunami to establish their “humor” skill set.

There is yet to be a crude joke that uses 9/11 incident till date in the US, this shows the respect the media and art world has for those innocent victims on that dread full day.

Already, the Tsunami disaster is being used for crude jokes on TV. I was watching the Pongal Special program trailer on Sun TV. The significant contribution came from the stereotyped “Pati Madandram” show in front of so called educated people. The esteemed speaker thinking that to be humor was busy comparing the Tsunami with something and laughed out loud. How a sane person can use such a tragedy for humor? I also had been over hearing references in few TV Serials.

It is hard to take when we see writers use a great tragedy to expose their humor. They fail to remember that there are families who are still wiping their tears for their loss.

How can talk shows do such an immoral act in the name of humor/entertainment? and get away? I have great respect for Mr. Solomon Papayya, I hope when the full show is telecast he forces the talk personality to ZIP IT.

Fund Raiser by Guitar Prasanna

Last Friday [01/07/2005] evening Guitar Prasanna and his band were here in DC to play live for a Tsunami fund raiser concert organized by IIT Alumni Association Washington DC.

The Talented trio consists of Prasanna on his Magic Guitar, Mike Pope on Bass and Brain Delaney on the drums. They played original compositions of Prasanna, mostly from Prasanna’s latest album “Be the change”. Though the concert started about an hour late [thanks to the Friday night Beltway traffic], it was totally fusion blast.

The drummer was simply extra ordinary; it seems Prasanna met him just few days ago. He played as though he knew them for ages. It was amazing to hear Mike Pope [on Bass]. He was so fluent with Indian classical music. He complimented “The Prasanna power” with his graceful bass playing. Trio complimented each others talent very well.

In an Indian fusion concert often I see artists trying to prove their individual talents rather than focusing on the Concept - “Fusion”. But in this concert it was totally different, I could hear the Raga in its purity clearly blending with the various Jazz and Blues progressions. It was so wonderful to hear Raga "Dharmavathi", "Kapi", "Bhilahari" blend to various jazz standards at odd time signatures [5/4, 7/8,9/8]. Drum and the Bass punctuated the melody all through without over dose. They exposed their class during solo parts. Frankly I was able to feel the blend quite well.

Mike

Thanks to Prasanna, Mike and Brain for standing up in front to support a good cause. I had chat with Prasanna few days before the concert, he told me that his artists were so considerate to travel and stay at their own expenses. They wanted to keep the production cost as low as possible. In a very good gesture, all of them being accomplished composers and music producers had their CD displayed for sale and contributed all the sales revenue towards the fund.

He also mentioned that this trio would be touring India for similar fund raisers, starting of with a show in IIT Chennai in end of January. You can check GuitarPrasanna.com for further details. This program was organized by Aid India .org, Tamil Sangam of greater Washington Dc and other DC based charities.

Ps: I did take some pictures of the concert, I will update it soon.

Desi 25 cents – [Quarters]

Vikings upset win over Green bay, Cheese got melted in spite of chilly temperature. The media was busy churning stories on Randy Moss’s unceremonious exit during the last week game against the Red skins in DC. The issue was 2 seconds left on the clock; red skins were ready to score a short field goal to win the game. Randy did not stay to shed tears with his team for the loss; he just walked back to the locker room.

Though this is not the first time he does this, the well paid Television experts had good curry to cook for rest of the week. Everyone was talking about this and were giving esteemed opinions for the Vikings and Randy Moss. They gave lot of sympathy for the coach and team for his behavior.

Vikings won their first play off game over Green bay. Green Bay never know till now what hit them. The star quarter back threw nothing but interceptions at regular intervals. Something called “Defense” came into existence for Vikings.
However the Randy Moss show did not end; he celebrated the victory in a un-sportsmanship like manner. You may goggle to see what he did. This does invite trouble. People were showing in display cards telling randy to walk out quoting the Redskins incident. Pumped up Moss misbehaved; He will be punished by the Mr. Clean and Co a.k.a NFL. After the game when asked about it Moss clearly told he shall deal with it. He has also apologized.

However, in the Fox anchor team, Terry Bradshaw was first to take him down and was using hard words on Moss. He is known to be a Vikings hater from long time now. With such a Hate record he gets a well cooked curry to rock hence he was having a ball trashing and advising Moss, In my opinion the Pot was busy calling names on the kettle.

With all due respects to Mr. Bradshaw’s foot ball achievements, everyone knows quite well about HIS tantrums during the 1 hour TV show. Looks like he has forgotten the free flirting he often does with the weather girls forgetting the fact many kids watch NFL. Where did the so called decency go then? Was it gone to Iceland on a skiing vacation?

Moss did take a cheap shot at the fans agreed I dont want to defend him, but at the same time when it comes to behavior or decency on Air, Brad Shaw is also a mere walking ego. He needs to go the dentists and clean himself first then talk about others.

A Late Review Shock

Few weeks ago I watched a great movie! [Drum roll please] “SHOCK” in 6.1 DTS.

The simple one line time saver review for this movie will be “please replace HO with an "U" and add S at the end”.

The man of the movie award goes to Mr. Thayagarajan[ the producer, the spender, the director, the decision maker, the screw-up party leader etc] When compared with his acting, the Star Wars fame R2D2 had better expressions than him. In fact R2D2 used to beep 2 different frequencies that simulated a speech like pattern. In Mr. Thyagu’s case he was so pathetic his voice and dialogue delivery was worse than a Chinese dubbing movie.

I read some where that he had challenged people to watch this movie alone, he would pay Rs 50,000. I thought I can get this money, however I am sure now I would never want to do it, not because of the horror story line etc in the movie, I felt the scariest part in the movie was him. It is too dreadful to Watch him and hear his dialogue delivery all alone. I really don’t know why there was no soul during the post production to pinpoint this meticulous crap. I would rename the movie as “Shocking Thyagu” [a.k.a “The Malai oor spade” part 3] instead.

There was a punk rock like dressed/face painted female who appears as the dead ghost. She haunts another one of its kind. The story is very simple. Prashanth, the newly married hero [to Meena] finds a new home which is haunted. The ghost makes appearances to Meena to take revenge on someone. Meena along with the audience becomes hysteric for rest of the movie. Prashanth seeks medical help [I wish he had taken his dad along]; the Doctors prognosis confirms a medical condition called “dual personality”. It does not help to resolve this problem. She is still haunted. Hence our hero follows the great advice of his house maid who has very bizarre set of mannerisms that is just to create a decoy. He seeks the help of a psychic/Medium. Our robot police guy with a weird accent and no expression investigates. After setting up few decoys, the real murder is someone from outside. the ghost talks and gets the truth out in front of entire movie cast. Finally, ABBAZ gets punished [don't dare to ask me where he came from]. The only good part in this movie is “Abbaz does not have any tongue twisting dialogues like ” machi” “mamu” “poda” etc. Tamil Language narrowly escapes unhurt.

That’s it I have no patience to write further about this ghostly crap.
Please do a good deed to your future generations. Get a white stone and engrave a note “DON’T WATCH THE CRAP CALLED SHOCK THE MOVIE” and put it some where in the attic of your house. This will make sure that your next 10-20 generations will never watch this movie even by mistake.

Yesterday I watched the Tsunami Benefit Cricket at the MCG. At the end of the day the money colleted stood some where near $15 million. It was good game to watch for a good cause. Dish network had also announced all the proceeds would go to the noble cause. Though ICC calls it to be an official one day I do not want to comment much about the game, every run scored earned $1000 and every six earned $50,000. Sehwag and Gilchrist made merry. So did Dravid and Pointing. Asian Eleven lost the game by 100+ runs.

On the follow-up on the interview, the person name was Guhan, he owns an online employment site in India. He made such reckless statements just to market about job openings in India. NRI investments today stands very high and Indian foreign exchange levels are quit high. With all this good things from NRIs, we are still painted with the black mark of being part of something called brain drain. If you see it in a positive way, at least people back home people accept that we have brains. Thanks.

Heard the Budweiser [aka. aRivu kozundhu].

Yesterday I had chance to watch a program called Sandhipoma on Sun TV anchored by Mr. Shahul Hameed. Usually his interviews are very interesting and his language is very pleasant to hear. Guests are often experts from various fields who clearly knew what they are talking about, a very interesting, simple and pleasant talk show.

But yesterday there was person whose name I missed as I tuned in little late. They were talking about IT in general. Hearing first few lines, I wanted to hear more. Soon I realized the person who was talking did not have any clue in what he is talking.

Yes, he was mere Budweiser [aRivu kozundhu].

First he opened up his can of worms on computer consultants going aboard to work. Slowly he started to justify people instead of going aboard and working can make same money and live much happier life in the home land itself. He mentioned that today IT is the hotcake in India hence people can stay here and work instead of going to London or New York. Oh yaw! Why India become a major outsourcing port of USA? First the cheap labor – the Dollar conversion then? Why everyone is forgetting the good will so many of our consultants created here. When it comes to our work force here we are very sincere and we implement projects on perfect schedule. Our knowledge in the subject is quite remarkable. Let me tell you, thousands of Indian consultants living here have proved and clearly created a base in the past 10 years. Quality of work, this is another main reason why US companies are going to India for outsourcing.

Forgetting all this Mr. Budweiser gave another dazzling statement, it seems Indians here in the US are struggling to survive after the dot com bubble and most of them today are living on food stamps, totally ludicrous. Who gets food stamps? Frankly I never know a fellow Desi who makes lower than 40k a year. Mr. BW did not have clue on what he was talking about. Here go to this link and check for yourself.

Next pearl he dropped was about fellow Indians killed during 9/11. It seems when they died here, they were no soul here to take care of them. Indians here it seems suffered lot of emotional problems and they don’t have anyone here to empathize with them.

Now during this Tsunami, entire India has come to help every citizen that never happened during 9/11.? It seems this kind of support is never there for people working abroad. What a great comparison?

He also simply and very convenient forgot one factor. I can pin point many Indian relief and social service organization here that have collected and collecting funds to help our people back home during every calamity. There are many Indian consultants here who have pledged their monthly pay.
Today India’s foreign currency reserve is at very respectable level. Where did it come from? Simply NRI investments; the world we are living is something different, we are not wood. Dear Mr. Shaul Hameed Please don’t get such half boiled nuts to talk about NRI in your shows.

Mr. Hameed Why don’t you travel here and get Tamil folks here in your show. Many have made remarkable things for the language, culture, Art or Business? Or why not get some real Indian entrepreneurs operating here to discuss about it.

I like to close down with comments from last week Visu’s Aratai aragam which was about NRIs. “M.K. Gandhi, father of our nation was also an NRI”. He came to work for India after studying and working aboard. "Thiruvilaiyadal", when Lord Murga can go around the world to honor his parents for getting the Knowledge Mango [Gana Pazam], why can’t his devotees do the same for their parents? whats the problem?

Today, World is not small anymore, Indians cannot be ignored;. We got to take part in the world activities sitting at home we cannot do it; we are working for India from aboard. Period.

Please you need not appreciate us, at least please don’t insult our good intentions. Remember you are not giving your TV shows free for us. We are willing to paying even to watch your craptaculor TV channel. There are many more things that came out of this interview. It is high time to stop this NRI bashing. I really don’t know how Mr. Shaul hammed can let him continue to give absurd opinions clearly hurting the sentiments of thousands of Tamilans working hard here.

Shun Nitpicks

Mata Amritanandamayi has pledged about $23 millions, which is much more than many European countries. Skeptics will come forward and ask questions from where she could get so much funds., simple answer “where there is will there is way” world is not dead yet. There are people who still contribute money.

Well known Tamil saying “siru thuLi” "peru veLam”

There are approximately 1,678,765 Indians in USA. Assuming 20% of them are skeptics or people who do not believe in any form spiritual Associations. The rest 80% is about 1,343,012, assume each contributes $10 per head [$10 is bare minimum hourly wage] , this itself now amounts to 13 million dollars, available right away from NRI in the USA. I think 23 million is very much possible, and it is possible only thru spiritual institutions.

Bottom line, the affected people need long term help, it does not really matter how and where it comes from, after all the funds are used for a very good cause. At this moment, we should shun nitpicks and look for methods to help the victims.

Ps: I noted something special in yesterdays date - 01/03/05

Spiritual Refugee

As aid pours from the world, Life does not seem to settle down for many Tsunami Victims, many are facing mental trauma. It is estimated in Tamil Nadu alone at least 8000 or more will face some kind of psychological distress. Doctors are tying out various methods to console; many physiatrists are busy counseling the survivors. These are people who had witnessed their loved ones being taken down by nature.

Yes, there may be a Prozac pill that helps them but there is no medicine in the world that is going to calm them down for the rest of their life.
Thinking about this in the long run, an Alternative suggestion will be to seek refuge towards spiritual healing. The only viable non medical way that consoles people during this tragic shock.

People took silent processions, Candle light vigils while temples, churches, gurudwaras and other religious outfits offered various prayers for the lost life. It was a very good gesture from many who cancelled their New Year celebration. It is a pity that I come across intellect souls criticizing various religious and mass gestures.

Frankly there is nothing wrong in sharing the sad moment among the mass using a common stage, the religion is one such medium. In the first place, the basic idea of a religion or a belief was formed for this purpose only - Mass compassion and Group healing.

Today aid is pouring from various parts of the world. Every victim is being attended with empathy. There will be a phase where the real victims will be left alone to think for themselves. This will be the real tough time for them to face. In my opinion, during this phase it is the spiritual healing that is going to help them.

Spiritual refugee is the best method to heal from this natural disaster; it is easy to say than doing it, how ever this path beyond doubt has a better healing percentage. For the survivors, I pray to God to give them the strength to take this unthinkable loss and move on with their life.

”Pralayam”

We have read in the Hindu mythology about “Pralayam” , nature wipes out everything in its path of destruction. On Dec 26th 2004, Costal towns in southern India and South East Asia faced one such natural calamity. Towns were wiped out in matter of seconds. Just as world seemed forgetting 26th Dec 2003 where people of Iran suffered a massive earth quake calamity, we have another disaster to digest. The calamity this time is in my neck of the woods.

It was on Christmas night, when my dad called me to tell there was a minor earth quake in Chennai. I checked the websites on Earth Quakes status and saw a mighty red square near Indonesia. We assumed this to be an after effect. But today we are now trying to cop up with what happened then. Tsunami waves from the so called beautiful ocean has swallowed life forms in matter of minutes. Most did not know what hit them.

It is time for us to join hands and provide help in what ever way we can.

Weekend TV

During the weekend, I got to watch the Sun TV morning edition News. Man! …the news reader has set a new standard in Tamil Pronunciation. His Pronunciation was totally rotten and obnoxious to the core. Adding to the fun he sits wearing western outfit. I really don’t know why Mr. Doctor is not worried about this language insult by Sun TV. Oh! I hear, he only admits and treats Cinema patients.

What are the criteria for getting the news reader job in Sun TV? Very simple, the news reader MUST FAIL TO pronounce certain set of words.
How long people are going to take it? Is the News producer of the morning edition Tamil deaf? How can he/she cope up with such a poor news reader who makes 200000 PMW [Pronunciation Mistakes per Word]?

Audience already tortured by biased news item line up, adding to the agony this guy sits there [in absolute western costume] and takes the language in own hands. Crushes, Grinds and squeezes it at regular intervals.
If you cannot read and pronounce Tamil properly why the hell go for the news reader job? He can try to be Tamil-VJ; or write a Blog!, he would be automatically pardoned for his language sins.

The only reason I see that he is still around in spite of his obnoxious language is someone with power in Sun Tv is pushing for him. ! Ridiculous! As Tamilians in order to keep the language beauty intact we tend to scold Udits and Sukiwinders for spoiling our language, clearly ignoring elements like these, are we hypocrites?

On Visu’s Aratai aranggam on Sunday, a 105 year old women was on stage. Amazing, this old women can talk 5 languages; she and her husband were freedom fighters under Mahatma Gandhi. When Mahatma Gandhi was shot, there were nine others who tried to protect him died along; one of them was her husband. She clearly recollected the incident and told the story in English. This lady has 3 kids who went missing during the partition. They are yet to come back, she is been living alone for past 60 years.

She was living in a very bad and poor condition. She told “I cannot beg” for money. It seems she asked the government for a job to make her living, but nothing came from the government. Past 60 years she has been living alone.
Visu’s Aratai Arangam Team has admitted this 105 year old women to the Old age home Vishsharanty” , she is been taken care by many there. She looked bright and clear for her ripe age of 105 years. She spoke in clear Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English. I am wondering how many people similar to her are still around. It was very moving to watch this on TV. In the midst of entertainment Television, I never miss “aratai aranggam” Kudos to Visu for this meaningful show.

TGIF

Gambir and Dravid made merry. Dravid became the first player in test cricket history to score centuries in all the test cricket playing nation. Congratulations to him, nice to see him on Turbo mode after the lazy show down ride against the South Africans.

Gambir who missed his first century by just 4 runs against South Africa, scored the ton, which will pull the plug for Akash Chopra. But for Gambir, a good dose of confidence boost for this young opener. I heard that Sehwag spent his day weeping (ROFW) for missing an easy 400, wire news from WI reads Lara was relieved. He record is safe as of now.

At close Sachin and Dravid were placed well, I am sure Dravid will score a 200. Sachin might create records, another 120 for 10,000 and a century to overtake the current Indian Batting consultant’s record. That’s all about cricket.

Yesterday on “Apprentice” on NBC, a 37 year old army guy who runs a software firm got the job. “Apprentice” is a very interesting TV reality Show, where the winner needs real managerial and other corporate skills to become a Trumpet [Mr. Trump’s pet]. Mr. Donald Trump, a filthy rich corporate giant, offers a top position in his corporate empire to the winner of this TV reality show. This show is different from the most reality shows where a person is paid a million to eat worms or stand in a pile of Crap, all this money just to prove their tolerance level.

This is a real corporate white color reality show. I follow this when time permits, and yesterday’s finale Mr. K got the job, he deserved it.
There is a rumor that Indian version of this show will be on Air soon. I am thinking for a name! , “ThozilaLi” , or if SunTv does it, they might call it “Kazaga thondan?” …who cares. For past 2 weeks, believe it or not, I have been missing major portion of Sun TV. Good, if this trend continues I think I will quit this dreaded habit of watching SunTV to kill time.

TGI-Friday: Today is our office Xmas Party, I get to eat bread and lettuce leaves while everyone will be busy gobbling grilled steak and other goodies made from various animal parts. There is going to be a live Jazz show by a local Dc club band. So from 12.00 noon, it is a paid holiday celebration.
This weekend we have football for 2 days…6 games to watch, of that 2 will be on HD. Playoffs round the corner, this year the playoff line up is very interesting. A tough playoff season with lots of heart breaks is guaranteed. Have a good weekend!

Exotic Tax Free! Zones

News: The International Cricket Council is planning to move its head quaters, reason - Tax implications. The ICC has an income of around $200 million and, under English law that warrents to pay tax. The government said it would offer concessions in a bid to persuade the ICC to stay in London, however there was wide spread condemnation from various Cabinet ministers of the goverment. Hence Government withdrew the consessions.
ICC will move to a location where they need not pay TAX.

BACK!

I am back; it was really brutal, wicked, and cruel and mean for past weeks now, Yes! It is winter time, it is so cold even the Sun [the real one, not the Serial Killer TV] shows up late to work with a nice Armani Jacket. I remembered my back breaking school days where we were forced to carry excess baggage in the name of school books. I am about 30 pounds extra now with my winter fashion on me.

My strenuous work for past month finally took its toll on me. I had a visitor, some form of virus that gave me a viral flu. Went to the doctor but he gave me short and sweet prognosis – He told me there is no medicine yet to handle Virus. Best will be to rest for couple of days. Alright, the only rest request I obey is the musical Rest.
[Check here] No way I afford to be on the bed for a whole day, I kept my schedule going. I had to stick with the over the counter medicines that are close relatives of my economics professor, like him they also made me very sleepy and more dull all through the week [weak rather]

At a point of time, while Sachin whacked his highest, the virus was busy whacking me , it made 105, and stayed there glued [like Rahul Dravid] during the weekend. Finally yesterday had some energy to regain and come out of medication.

I have been out of sync with world news, the sad news was demise of Shri M.S.Subhalakshmi, been hearing the voice of late M.S.Subhalakshmi from the day I started to recognize music. Her soulful rendering “kurai ondrum illai” to Venkatesa suprapAtham keeps me going while dealing the pressure of life. Music lost one of its greatest daughters.

All Other news was just the same, The Hindu pontiff was still in prison; India trashed Bangladesh, and went to win the test match.
During my sick leave, I watched a movie called “Kamaraj”, I have heard lot from my teachers about him during my school days. Simply an Amazing leader, I still remember hearing his funeral procession via AIR [Madras -1] with my late grand mother. At that time we were in Laxmipuram [a hamlet near Chromepet Madras]. I was about 7 years old then, I remember seeing My grand mother in tears, I asked why? She simply told me he was a great leader. I really did not get the emotion at that time. However, later during my school days I read and learnt about his great man, he was the last genuine leader who followed Gandhism as his life principle.

Finally, believe it or not, I had to go on an official visit to NewYork during my sick leave, Manhattan during Christmas! Season, is something everyone needs to see in their life. I will write more about it in my next Blog.

India Win the Kolkata test and the series.

India clinched a home series after about 2 years, last time they did was in 2002. Harbajan bowled a tight line to finish with 7 wickets; this was enough to fetch him the man of the match award and a new color TV.

Kumble was on par with Kapil Dev on wickets haul. Nitini [caught Dravid] became his 434th wicket. He joins Kapil in being the highest wicket takers for India. As per record books, Kumble achieved the milestone in 90 Test matches, which is about 40 -41 test match lesser than Kapil Dev. Did Kapil really take longer time to get his 434, is it? Let us open this can of worms. Do the number of matches played significant here?, I would like to see number of overs bowled by each bowler.
Kapil Dev bowled about 4624 overs to get 434 wickets, on the other hand Kumble has bowled about [+/-] 5161 overs for his 434 , the bottom line , Kumble has bowled 450-500 overs more than Kapil Dev. Number of Matches does not matter here. To equal this record, Kumble had to bowl a lot than Kapil Dev.

But having reached this mark nothing should be taken away from Kumble, who in general is not a natural spinner or tuner of the ball. He had to work really hard to reach his land mark. Congratulations to him. Sehwag was given man of the series, he got a 42 inch wide screen plasma!...TV wow!. I wish I could get one soon to watch his next knock. This guy rocks!...in his speech also. Sehwag has become our house hold guy now.

Gangully was seen walking around with his (4 year old?) daughter; these guys get very little time to spend time with their family. It was nice to see him introduce his little kid to everyone around. Just like my daughter, she was very shy to the core and stuck tight on her dad’s shoulders. Ganguly promised to win the Bangladesh series. I really do not care about Bangladeshi series, however it can help many Indian batsmen to come back to form, this includes also the God.

Finally the long cricket series and subscription has ended, I hope I will to get to sleep my full quota till the Pakistan series in February. Or Dam who knows may be I sit with my crown [aka head phones] and call it proudly a recording session!

Game Day, Second Test

India vs South Africa

At close of play South Africans have about 66 runs lead with 5 wickets in hand. The day started of slowly and Indians increased their lead and was bowled out just before lunch.

South Africa started and Hall survived a very close LBW call from Zaheer Khan. Hall was playing an ugly cricket on one end. He had to dance around for about 60 balls for his 21, but his captain on the other end played some nice decent cricket, he kept the score board ticking.

Slowly the deficit was erased. Just before tea Harbajan started to take wickets, this was kind of the turning point. I think Anil Kumble played a vital role in this. He pinned the batsmen really well and next over Harbajan continued push the pins deeper, he got the break through,. From 77 for no loss, scored moved to 81 for 2 at tea; Kolkata crowd was going nuts.

Jacq Kallis was very lucky, he was clearly out to a close bat pad edge, and umpire missed it. How could he miss such an easy decision?, GOD only knows the answer. Slater commented India missed Gilly who would walk for this. Kalils who nose cries loud even for genuine decisions had no problem standing there gleaming at the disappointed Indians Eleven.

Gangully was totally annoyed, I am sure he will be fined for his gestures. Who cares! Hey it was clearly out, given the nature of Kallis batting strength, Gangully had every right to perform a “Kali” dance. Kallis was 52 [for 1] a close.
The disappointment faded away soon as wickets keep falling at regular intervals.
VVS took a great catch to get rid of Smith. Smith was caught at 2 slip, however ball almost traveled some where near gully. VVS made a quick diving effort to send the South African caption out. The reaction time was too small to print. Smith played very well for this 71; in my opinion, Smith was the only South African player in the touring party with some batting class.

The Next catch was also a beauty, or may be lucky also. A quick thick edge which clipped the pads of Keeper Dinesh Kartik went high in the air to “Point” region where Sehwag had enough time to gobble it.

In the morning TV show, both the camps was asked about the days play, south African coach told they would score about 150 runs lead by end of days play.

While on the Indian side, Sehwag was the spokesmen, he told it will be hard and dangerous to play Harbajan and Kumble. By the way, Sehwag now talks in fluent English, few years ago he would switch to Hindi, but this time he had no problem talking to Slater.

Over all South Africans are ahead by 66 runs and have 5 wickets, in hand, I am sure Kallis will come with a lorry load of Fevico and super glue. Indians needs to come out in a positive frame and wipe the tail out. India can score up to 200 on this track on the final day. A good 5th day's play is on cards.
